OPERATION: WE CARE
Stitching for Our Troops:
Please consider making a pillowcase or pillowcases for our troops in Afghanistan. These simple items give our military a little piece of home. A pillowcase is used in the conventional way or as bulletin board for photos, notes, etc. or for just keeping stuff in. Please use whatever fabrics you have, be creative. Use a variety of motifs-patriotic, sports, hobbies, whatever prints you choose. Please use fragrance free laundry products for washing your 100% cotton fabrics. And Smoke Free Please!
Here’s a site for pillowcase making-video -Google: Robinquiltsetc.com go to tutorials and you'll find a video. You do NOT have to use 3 fabrics for a pillowcase-two fabrics will be fine. Each pillowcase is 1 yard of fabric- 3/4 yard for the body and 1/4 for the cuff.
If you make or get anyone else to make any pillowcases for Operation: We Care please contact me for an overseas address: Rev. Liz Wold lizdcw@earthlink.net

Thanks for making or sending something from here over THERE!
If you'd like to get children involved here are a few suggestions.
Make or buy 100% cotton print fabric pillowcases that children can decorate, write their names on, draw pictures, write a greeting. I've attached pics of fabrics that give children a good background on which to be creative.
Please no pastels and limit the girlie prints.
Crayola makes fabric markers that do not need heat setting.
Please wash the finished pillowcases in free and clear laundry products and iron after decorating.
Places like FabricDepot, Fabric.com are good sources for reasonable cotton quilting fabric by the yard.
A how to video for pillowcases is at:www.Robinquiltsetc.com
Go to TUTORIALS for instructions. Only 2 fabrics are needed for each pillowcase 3/4 yd for the body 1/4 yd for the cuff.
A coin jar is a simple way to collect postage costs.
The APO military postal box holds about 25 pillowcases and costs $12.50. APO boxes are free and can be ordered from the USPS Priority mail APO/FPO Flat Rate Box. These boxes can be shipped directly to home, school, etc.
You will need to fill out a customs form which are free at the post office. Military packages cannot be insured, or delivery confirmed.
If you gather pillowcases please contact me for other details: Rev. Liz Wold
